In my last article I suggested some guidelines for choosing the right vehicle for towing RV. Here are some more guidelines which may be much beneficiary for you. By learning these guidelines you need not to be fully dependant on the salesperson. Most of the salesperson may be misleading to you as their sole purpose is to sell their vehicle. They may not be well conversant with the vehicles tow rating and will consult the towing books to identify the tow capacity of a vehicle. So you need to follow these guidelines carefully while choosing the right vehicle for towing your RV:

Drive Type: Undoubtedly the choice of rear-wheel drive vehicle is better than front-wheel drive vehicle. I will not suggest four-wheel drive vehicle, although you may have to use one in any emergency for towing your RV. While using rear-wheel drive you have the advantage of better grip and stability. All-wheel drive vehicles are more vulnerable to damages from towing and come with reduced towing capacity.

Type of Transmission: Transmission may be of two types: Automatic transmission and manual transmission. Automatic transmission is better than the other. Some precautions are needed for using this. Your vehicle should be equipped with transmission cooler and overdrive should be disabled. These measures are necessary to prevent excessive wear. An experienced shifter may use manual transmission efficiently for towing.

Type of Engine: Modern turbo-diesel engines are always preferred in towing due to their better mileage and durability. These engines can be affectively used in mountain areas due to their turbo power, where gas-engines may fail. Remember to consider about torque of the engine instead of horsepower. The more torque, better the engine for towing. If you have to choose the smaller engine due to budget constraints, ensure that it should consume more fuel than the larger engines.

Braking System: Assisted Braking System, known as ABS is much used these days in the modern vehicles. You may also consider having an electronic trailer brake in breaking system of the vehicle. This eliminates the possibility of any accident while towing a large RV.

Final Drive Ratio and Heavy Duty Differential: Final drive ratio pertains to gears of a vehicle. A higher final drive ratio means lower gearing and it is better for towing. Heavy duty differential kits include all the bearings, springs, seals and gaskets.

Towing packages: It is also worth mentioning here that some vehicle manufacturers also provide tow packages with their vehicles. This package includes upgraded vehicle suspension, brakes, cooling system, engine and transmission oil coolers, heavy-duty alternator and battery. You should consider buying the vehicle with this package.

Now you are equipped with a lot of information and you will not have to repent on your choice of vehicle for towing your RV. So go and pick up one.
